1. Identify self-limiting beliefs. They are those beliefs you have about yourself and the world that cause you to place limitations on what you think is possible. These beliefs can be conscious or unconscious. You may have had experiences to justify these beliefs or they may be totally unfounded. Either way these beliefs limit you and what you're able to accomplish--they cause a lack of motivation and are a drain on your energy.
To identify them listen to what you say and what you think. Do you ever hear yourself saying things like, "I'm not smart enough to get that job." or "Nobody would go out with somebody who looks like me." or "I'll never make enough money have the life I want." Any of these sound familiar?
2. Once you have identified a limiting belief it's time to transform it. This transformation will create the self help motivation you need to move from limitations to opportunities. Take a statement like: "Nobody would go out with somebody who looks like me." And turn it into what you "do want". I want a relationship with someone who loves the way I look. Which one feels better?
Turn the statement: "I'm not smart enough to get that job..." Into what you "do want". I want a job where I can use my strengths and I'm appreciated for what I contribute. Which one feels better?
Limitations are created in our minds. We say them often enough and we begin to believe them. The truth is we only have the limitations we say we do. Henry Ford quote says it well, “If you think you can…. or if you think you can’t…you’re right!”
3. Take action! Now that you've identified what you "do want", come up with actions you can take to start moving towards your desired results. If you want a job where you can use your strengths and be appreciated for what you contribute, you might want to start by identifying your strengths. Then you could possibly start honing these strengths to build your confidence.
If you want to be in a relationship with a person that loves the way you look, you might want to make sure you love the way you look. If not, determine what actions you could take to start loving the way you look.
Self help motivation is only as good as the actions you take. Successful actions build confidence; confidence inspires you to take more action which in turn creates motivation. As the title says, it can be as easy as 1 2 3.
