Got Motivation? The Self Help Tips You Need to Get It and Keep It!

How many times have you said you wanted something, started taking steps to get it and then stopped? Often the biggest obstacle we have in getting the things we want is the simple act of being motivated. If this is true, and we think it is, then it's very important to figure out how to get and stay motivated. To do this, let's first look at the dictionary definition of the word motivate.
mo•ti•vate

To provide with an incentive; move to action; impel.

And then if we look at the word origin & history of the word motivate, we find this:
1885, "to stimulate toward action," from motive (q.v.), perhaps modeled on Fr. motiver or Ger. motivieren. Motivation first recorded 1873; the psychological sense of "inner or social stimulus for an action" is from 1904.

So what dose that all tell us? To begin with, that in order to be motivated we must find an incentive-- something that stimulates us to move into action. How do you know that you don't have an incentive? We can tell that we have no motivation when staying focused and finishing the things we start become insurmountable challenges. If this sounds familiar, relax... you're not alone.

The good news is that there are simple steps you can take right away that will put self help motivation in place in your life. This motivation will immediately start you down the path to getting more of what you want and less of what you don't.
Tip number 1. Do you really want it? Always check your motives behind what you want.
Ask the question: Do I really want this thing? An easy way to find out is to use a scale, on a scale from one to 10, with one being not at all and 10 being I can't live without it how much do you want it?

If your score falls below and eight re-think this goal. Perhaps it's something someone else wants for you. Maybe you think it's a good idea but it really doesn't work well with your prefer lifestyle.
If you score an eight or higher, then it's time to dig deeper. Go onto tip number two.

Tip number 2. Why do I want it? Dig underneath what you say you want to discover your intrinsic motivation.

What's most important to you--the things you deeply value--are what will sustain your motivation like nothing else. Ask yourself questions such as: what's so important to me that has me want this goal in the first place?

Or what will I experience if I achieve this goal?

These types of questions will get you to the underlying importance of your goal. Any time you feel a sense of discouragement, or lack of motivation, simply get back in touch with your underlying reasons.

Tip number 3. What are you willing to do to get it? Remember the definition of motivate is: To provide with an incentive; move to action. Without action not much happens.

So the next thing to do is to clearly define your goal--what do you want to achieve and by when?

Did you feel any resistance or concern when you heard us say that? If so, there's an exercise in one of our blog posts, How to Really Achieve Your Dreams that breaks any goal down into small manageable pieces. Find it by going to: http://www.newageselfhelp.com/main/how-to-really-achieve-your-dreams

As you put these suggestions in place in your life you will begin to notice your things shifting for the better. Any time you want something, remember first to identify whether you really want it or not, then give your self a little help by identifying your internal motivation and last but not least, get in action!

Top 3 Reasons Why a Person Cannot Find His Inner Self Help Motivation

Are you wondering why no matter how hard you try to achieve your goal, you still can't find your self motivated?

Here are the top 3 ignored reasons why a person cannot find his inner self-help motivation.

Self Help Motivation - The Top 3 Ignored Reasons Why People Never Achieve Prosperity No Matter What
By Nic Masters

When people start on the path of life in their early adult years, most of them are rather upbeat about their chances for success in life. However, after several years you find out that most of those same people are not so enthusiastic anymore. They have failed and the reasons for that are multifaceted.

There are three reasons, which most people usually do not think about, but which are in fact the main culprits for the failures of most people. And no, these are not lack of education, poor background and no connections with influential people. Here are the real top 3:

Reason 1: People do not believe in themselves.

While we said that people start their lives enthusiastic, this does not mean that they believe in themselves. If they believed in themselves, then why would they give up at the first big obstacle? Rather, people are riding a wave, and once this wave crashes, they decide that they are a failure. Therefore, it is really important that one develops a deep belief in their own abilities and potential to make sure that any failures are taken as learning experiences rather than as the end of the world as we know it.

Reason 2: People do not set goals for themselves.

Years ago Earl Nightingale, the so called Dean of Personal Development, said in his famous record "The Strangest Secret" that the biggest difference between the failures and successes in life is in goals. People who succeed in life set high goals for themselves, believe that they can attain them, and calmly proceed to the realization of these goals. Those, who fail, on the other hand, have no goals and thus have no direction in life. True, they might get lucky here and there, but their overall direction is bound to be the same as a bus without a driver - it is bound to crash sooner or later.

Reason 3: People refuse to give until they get something first.

This one might sound a little controversial, but it has the biggest potential to change your life. People are always afraid of whether they will get what they give in return. Therefore they never give until they get something first, which obviously limits their opportunities in life. The Law of Reciprocity postulates that you only get in proportion to what you give, and that you first need to give. Furthermore, your return does not have to come back from where you gave to - it will most probably come from a completely different direction.

So, there are the three usually ignored reasons for failure. Are some of these reasons applicable to your life? If yes, then you know what you need to do to get yourself back on the track to attracting abundance. Enjoy attracting abundance and prosperity!

How Self Help Motivation Can Help You Succeed

One of the most important factors in achieving success is to learn how to use your self-help motivation to keep you inspired.

Here's a great article from Darrell Banks on how important is self-motivation to your success.

Self Motivation For Success

At times we're all guilty of putting tasks to the side for later, even if these tasks could potentially be very beneficial to us. Most of us seem to rather want to wait until the timing or the day is better. When it comes to positive self help, motivation is a key ingredient to success. A lot of our motivation can come from within ourselves if we know the right ways to bring it to life! More self motivation means more positive thinking, more self confidence, and a path to a more successful lifestyle.

I'm very sure that you've seen people on television talking about their very successful businesses, or the great amounts of money they make. You think to yourself, " Wow, they seem so normal, what's so different about that person?" This is a very common question to ask, as many people can't understand what puts these people on the top of the food chain. Of course, hard work and dedication are key factors to success, but what drives these two qualities is self motivation. These people thrive on making themselves better at what they do on a daily basis. Without self motivation you couldn't dedicate countless hours to building a business, or care enough to work hard at being better at it. Many very talented people fail to reach their full potential due to the fact that they just weren't motivated enough to pursue their goals.

The topic of goals is an important one in self motivation. We all have some sort of goal, even if it is just to make sure that we save enough money out of our check for an oil change and diapers. Most people have goals that are more broad such as being the next president, or signing a recording contract. Any goal is a good one as long as you have an action plan present to get you there. This will usually consist of smaller, easily attainable goals for the short term. In the example of the money saving scenario, maybe your action plan is to take $50.00 out your check for the next 2 weeks. The plan of action is how you will attain your initial goal. Most goals are left without this plan of action, and are stuck at the initial phase.

Write down your major goals first, and then develop a plan of action to get you there. Without this, goals are simply dreams that will sit on the back burner. Make sure you set tangible goals for yourself, meaning attainable goals. Don't just say that you'd like to be the next president of the United States, start by saying that you'd like to advance to school president within a year, and have a list of at least 10 contacts in your local political power. It's easier to motivate yourself when you create realistic goals that provide stepping stones for the more elaborate ones. As you begin to list goals that you can attain within the year, you'll feel your self motivation rising. Writing them down provides you a visual list that you can check off as you go, and reward yourself for your accomplishments. Goal setting is a priceless part of self motivation and success building, and starting small is how you go about setting tangible, attainable goals.

Another important thing to note is that the self motivated individual doesn't believe in barriers. There is no such thing as impossible, and at the very least, what is said to be impossible intrigues them. Start adapting this attitude as soon as you can and you'll see immediate results. There isn't one thing in the world that you cannot do, and the only one that can say otherwise is yourself. When you realize this, you'll begin to feel more in control and take more positive action in your ventures.

Thinking positively about every situation is a very valuable trait, and will be found amongst almost all successful people. The idea behind a self-fulfilled prophecy is that the more you say something, the more true it becomes in your life. When you tell yourself that something is impossible, or allow someone else to, you've in fact already stopped yourself from accomplishing it. However, telling yourself that you can do something, even in the odds of adversity, actually increases the chances that you'll succeed. This is because you'll already be thinking success, not failure. This will drive you to go above and beyond limitations to reach your goal, as failure was never an option to begin with.

When you combine positive thinking with effective goal setting, you'll soon see your self motivation begin to rise. You'll feel more organized and more powerful than ever, and as you continue living this way, those feelings can only increase. Tell yourself that you can do whatever it is you choose in life, and let go of the limitations and barriers that society and other people place on you. Limitations are for losers, and you my friend are a winner. Remember, the more you say it, the more real it will become.

How to Regain Self Help Motivation by Improving Yourself

Lack of motivation can stem from  lack of self-confidence.  When we have doubts about capabilities, we might feel uninspired and unmotivated.  So how do you get inspiration to regain self help motivation?

One way to do that is by improving yourself.  Atle Pedersen shares his insight on how to improve yourself to battle lack of motivation.

Improving Yourself - Self Help Motivation
By Atle Pedersen

Where can you find motivation? The truth is it is all around us if you know where to look. But with all the daily routines and events we may often feel overwhelmed and finding the motivation to be effective and productive in our daily tasks can often be overwhelming.

So how do we battle lack of motivation?

First of all, take a break.

You will probably notice you are a lot less productive when you are feeling overworked, sometimes we may be overworked and not even know it, no matter the case, it is important to take a break every now and then.
We all need our down time, and a break from the daily pressures can work miracles for your quality of life and recharging your batteries.

Be inspired.

Inspiration can strike when you least expect it, and when it arrives it is important to act on that inspiration. But inspiration can also be found as long as you keep an open mind.

Going for a walk can be so much more than just a walk if you take the time to really appreciate your surroundings. The world is alive all around you, and noticing small, seemingly meaningless things can really sparkle your imagination.

So can reading, read magazines you are interested in, if you like cooking, read a cookbook! Before you know it, you're cooking a gourmet meal.

Truth is, if you have an interest in something, it is important to nourish that interest to give you joy and satisfaction in life.

Take action!

Nothing will ever happen unless you do it yourself, many people procrastinate, saying to themselves; "I'll get to it..." But the longer you procrastinate anything, the less motivated you will be to take any action at all, sometimes you might forget it all together.

When you take action, you will soon begin to notice you are more focused, your interest grows, and your desire to see it through increases.

Imagine a painter, when he starts he has no idea what the painting is going to look like, he may have an idea in his head, but he will never know until it is finished. But as soon as he starts painting, things begin to happen, he may get new ideas and his picture begins to take form. And every stroke of his brush gives the painter a higher appreciation of his work.

Your subconscious mind will go through the same experience whenever you take on a task, giving you focus and a desire to complete the task.

This is because your mind becomes concentrated on the task at hand, subconsciously searching for solutions. So actually getting up and doing it, may be all it takes to get something done.

Motivation can be hard to come by for many people, so at Motivation Books we have gathered a variety of resources on self motivation and improvement to help you along the way.
